B ishop Limmie Nathaniel Forbes is a native of Wayne County, North Carolina. He is the fourth child of ten children. He currently resides in East Orange, New Jersey. He began his Christian walk with Christ as Saviour at an early and tender age of nine. He was endowed with the precious gift of the Holy Ghost one morning on his way to milk the family’s cow. The bucket went one way and Limmie went another, praising the Lord. He yet remains a member of Leventon Chapel Original Free Will Baptist Church, Stantonsburg, NC, under the leadership of Pastor George Wiggins. He preached his initial sermon in May 1959, Subject: “You Need It and You Must Have It.” His motto is “I love you more than you do me and there’s nothing you can do about it.” In November 1988, Bishop Forbes was joined in holy matrimony to the late Sister J. Ramona Artis-Forbes, who began her eternal journey with the Lord in December 1996. Bishop Forbes serves as God’s Angel for ONE church in THREE locations: Faith Temple No. 1, East Orange, NJ; Faith Temple No. 2, Capital Heights, MD, and Faith Temple No. 1 & No. 2 Extension, Wilson, NC. Bishop Forbes is the oldest tenure pastor in the city of East Orange. In November 1992, the Mayor of East Orange, along with the East Orange City Council, dedicated “Halsted Street” as “L. N. Forbes Plaza” in his honor. He is well known and favorably respected both nationally and internationally. In 1968, he was elected Presiding Bishop of the Original Free Will Baptist Middle Eastern Conference of America, Inc, and still serves in that position. He is the General Bishop of the Original Free Will Baptist Conference of America. He served as past positions: Vice President of the National Convention of Free Will Baptist of the U.S.A.; President of the East Orange Clergy Movement; and President of the Hampton Ministers’ Conference of Hampton University in Virginia. Bishop Forbes received his academic studies in the Wayne County public schools and continued to pursue his scholastic studies at Hampton University, Hampton, VA, where he received a Doctorate of Divinity Degree. He is also a recipient of three Honorary Doctorate Degrees: Honorary Doctorate of Divinity, Atlantic Christian College, Wilson, NC; Honorary Doctorate of Divinity, New York Bible Institute; and Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters in Education, United Christian College, Goldsboro, NC. He is the author of a book entitled “The High Cost of Leadership” published by the M. L. King Fellows Press. Foremost, Bishop, Dr. L. N. Forbes is a holy man of God demonstrating “Love and Concern” for all mankind. |
